Online Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?
Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to make it to the last table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a huge pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest gamblers anywhere in the world. While betting on web poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. Gus frequently competes in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen frequently buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all in. I believe Hansen is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is flat broke, he has no reason to play at the table with the min buy-in.
Buying in for the min takes a majority of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is assumed to be 1 of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total dollar value. I believe television can alter our view of the real world every now and then. The best poker players anywhere in the world may be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be found wagering on web poker on Full Tilt. He usually competes in big stakes omaha hi-low and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in money games?
