Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 where he enjoyed betting on different card games at a young age. He discovered himself becoming really aggressive in the above-mentioned card games while competing against his dad. After graduating from high school, Howard decided to place higher education on hold for a little while and moved to New York City to play some big-time chess. While playing chess, he was introduced to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s initial two years were rough as he would play countless hours and don’t win a majority of the time. He made some extra money by being an runner for the poker enthusiasts. He theorized he possibly could better his game by adjusting his life outside of poker. He made an attempt to get more rest and concentrate even more on poker.

The actual improvement in his abilities happened when he started gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the greatest players would often compete against each other. He had access into a few of the greatest minds in chess. With their help, Howard Lederer would hone his cunning thinking techniques. He applied these strategic concepts to the game of NL texas hold’em.

He also assisted his sister Annie Duke learn poker. Annie was an excellent student of poker as she constantly asked questions about how to make the correct choice. He told Annie to move out to Sin City and compete in the World Series of Poker competition. Annie Duke is one of the greatest female players the poker world has ever seen. He moved to Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and played cash games for the next 10 years. When the WPT gained popularity, Howard made the decision to compete in more tournaments.
