Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to make it to the last poker table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus raked in a massive pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest bettors around the world. While competing in web poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. He frequently participates in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of $40, 000. Hansen frequently buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all in. I accept that Gus is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is broke, he has no reason to play at the game with the min buy-in.

Buying in for the minimum takes a majority of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be one of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total dollar value. I think television can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The best poker players in the world might just be guys you have will not have heard about. Gus can be found competing in online poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in big stakes omaha/8 and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in money rounds?
