Web High Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen
Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only player to achieve final game in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He won a huge pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest bettors anywhere in the world. While playing net poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. He often plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen more often than not buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He waits for a good hand and then goes all-in. I believe Hansen is an excellent poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has little or no reason to play at the game with the minimum buy-in.
Buying in for the min takes almost all of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is supposed to be 1 of the greatest players in the world but he cannot buy in for the full dollar value. I believe television can skew our perception of the real world sometimes. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world might just be players you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be seen wagering on net poker on Full Tilt. He commonly participates in high stakes omaha hold’em and Holdem. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in cash games?
