Howard Lederer lived in a family of 5 where he enjoyed playing different card games at a young age. He discovered himself becoming really aggressive in these card games while competing against his father. After graduating from secondary school, Howard made a decision to place college on hold for a little bit and headed to New York City to compete in some big-time chess. While playing chess, he was introduced to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s 1st 2 years were tough as he played many hours and don’t win a majority of the time. He earned some extra money by becoming an runner for the poker enthusiasts. He believed he possibly could better his game by balancing his life away from poker. He brought about an effort to acquire more rest and concentrate more on the game.
The actual advancement in his game happened when he started betting at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the the most favorable players would regularly compete against one another. He was able to access some of the greatest minds in chess. With their help, he would tweak his cunning thinking skills. Howard applied these strategic concepts to the game of NL Texas Holdem.
Howard Lederer also helped his sister Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie was an excellent student of the game as she would always be asking questions about how to make the correct choice. Howard Lederer told Annie Duke to head out to Sin City and compete in the World Series of Poker competition. Annie Duke is one of the greatest women players the poker world today. He headed to Vegas in 1993 and played money games for the following 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, he made the decision to play more tournaments.
