Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only player to achieve final table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus raked in a large pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best gamblers anywhere in the world. While playing online poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. He regularly competes in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Gus generally buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I know Hansen is an excellent poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to settle at the game with the min buy-in.

Buying in for the minimum takes a majority of the skill out of deep stack poker. Gus is presumed to be one of the greatest players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total amount. I think television can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The best players anywhere in the world might just be guys you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen competing in internet poker on Full Tilt. He normally participates in big stakes omaha hi-low and texas hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his talents in cash games?
