The History of Poker Money

[ English ]

Poker chips have been made from a varied selection of materials in an almost infinite variety of variations since the creation of wagering and the requirement to keep track of winnings. The most common components used at this time in the creation of new poker chips are plastic, clay, and acrylic composite. Clay chips, the oldest of the bunch, have been manufactured in America since the late 1800s.

Back in the 1800s, poker players appear to be using any tiny valuable item you can imagine. Early poker players at times used jagged gold pieces along with chips – mainly manufactured of wood and clay. By the 20th century, poker chip designs started to enjoy a greater prominence, and the smooth sides of older chips gave way to chips with ridges to hold them neatly stacked with each other.

There is little or no debate that poker has expanded steadily in acceptance ever since its beginnings in the 1800s. With the huge growth of internet gaming and unique television shows, community appeal in poker has feed the fire more rapidly than ever before. Many people are first introduced to poker by TV showslike Bravo’s "Celebrity Poker Showdown" or the Travel Channel’s "World Poker Tour," and many will play their first hands on the web. Regardless of internet poker’s rise, nothing replaces the feeling of mixing heavy clay poker chips in your hands, throwing chips into the middle of a poker table, or creating tall pilesstacks of chips after displaying a victorious hand.
